At the Y, we know that teenagers will rise to meet expectations set for them, so we set our expectations high. Mentors, staff and other role models value our teens' individuality and guide them toward becoming responsible and engaged adults. Y LEADERS We want teens to explore their possibilities and think big. The Y offers programs that promote personal responsibility, character development, leadership and community involvement. Job Shadowing Opportunities
Exploring is a unique career exploration program for young men and women ages 14-20. It provides students with an opportunity to learn about a wide variety of career fields and network with professionals already working in those fields. You get hands-on experience to determine whether or not a particular career field is right for you. You develop valuable networking contacts with professionals working in your selected career fields, and you get to know other teenagers and young adults sharing your same interests and aspirations. Exploring can be the first step in identifying career possibilities while having fun in an exciting and informal environment.
Most Career Exploring programs align with the high school calendar and begin in the fall, while some also offer summer activities, conferences, internships and other events. Most meet once or twice a month throughout the school year. |

The YBC has undergone some enhancements since its initial launch in April 2014:
- Employers can now post complete descriptions and required skills for their long-term work-based learning (WBL) opportunities including apprenticeships, cooperative education, internship and volunteer service.
- Educators can now submit short-term WBL opportunity requests for career days, classroom speakers, job-shadowing and workplace tours directly to employers and receive a response through the YBC. They can also filter and review long-term WBL opportunities by type, student audience, industry cluster and semester offered, and submit student application requests directly to employers.
